Newcastle Ambassador of the Year Award. 

Recognising an individual who actively champions Newcastle-under-Lyme and encourages others to discover, support and feel positive about the town.

This award celebrates people who promote the town through their work, volunteering, creativity, networks or everyday actions, helping to raise its profile and share what Newcastle-under-Lyme has to offer.

This category was judged by a panel made up of members of the Newcastle-under-Lyme BID Board and team, alongside a representative from We Are Staffordshire.

The shortlisted individuals were selected based on the strength of their nominations and the positive impact of their enthusiasm and advocacy. The winner will be announced at the LoveNUL Business Awards on Friday 9th October.

The Shortlist

Andrew Van Buren

Andrew Van Buren was praised for using the story of Philip Astley to promote Newcastle-under-Lyme to audiences around the world. His work has helped people as far away as Finland, California and Brazil learn about the town, with some going on to visit.

Judges also valued Andrew’s work with local schools, helping younger people understand the borough’s heritage and take pride in it. Wherever he speaks about Philip Astley, he ensures Newcastle remains an important part of the story.

Elise Turner

Elise Turner was recognised for the enthusiasm for Newcastle-under-Lyme and its history that she brings to her work at Brampton Museum. She helps visitors connect with local stories and understand more about the people and places that have shaped the area.

Judges valued the genuine pride Elise shows when sharing what Newcastle has to offer. Her knowledge and welcoming approach make her a valued ambassador for the town and an important part of the museum’s visitor experience.

Jamie Wells

Jamie Wells was recognised for connecting local people and organisations with support and funding opportunities through his work with Support Staffordshire. His contribution to developing the use of the Guildhall was also highlighted.

Judges valued Jamie’s enthusiasm for promoting Newcastle and encouraging people to become involved in the town. His practical support helps organisations turn ideas into action, strengthening Newcastle-under-Lyme from within while championing what it has to offer.

Jenna Goodwin

Jenna Goodwin provides independent coverage of Newcastle-under-Lyme’s news, businesses and events through The Staffordshire Signal CIC, helping the town retain a visible local media presence. Through The Red Haired Stokie, she also shares the history of local buildings, people and places.

Judges valued the way Jenna’s work connects Newcastle’s past and present. By covering stories that might otherwise go unreported or unnoticed, she helps more people engage with the town and understand what is happening within it.

Nick Degg

Nick Degg celebrates Newcastle-under-Lyme through his poetry, including ‘Down Castle’, which has featured in artwork around the town. His work offers a creative and accessible way for people to connect with Newcastle and its identity.

Judges also recognised Nick’s involvement with the Brampton and his appearances at local events. His consistently positive attitude and willingness to support the promotion of Newcastle make him a visible and enthusiastic ambassador for the town.
