Recognising a trader who brings quality, character and excellent service to Newcastle-under-Lyme’s markets and events.

This award celebrates traders whose products, presentation, customer service and reliability help create a welcoming and varied experience at local markets and events.

This category was judged by a panel made up of members of the Newcastle-under-Lyme BID Board and team, alongside a representative from New Vic Theatre.

The shortlisted nominees were selected based on the strength of their nominations and the contribution they make to Newcastle-under-Lyme’s markets and events. The winner will be announced at the LoveNUL Business Awards on Friday 9th October.

The Shortlist

Backyard Burgers

Backyard Burgers combines freshly prepared street food with an energetic and professional presence at events. Nominations highlighted burgers made to order, a menu offering something beyond standard event catering and strong branding and presentation.

Judges also recognised the practical work behind reliable event trading. The team arrives prepared, maintains its standards during busy periods and continues to offer welcoming service even when queues are long, creating a positive experience alongside the quality of the food.

Calisi’s Cookies

Calisi’s Cookies was praised for the quality, variety and presentation of its homemade bakes. Nominations highlighted its changing selection of cookies, cookie pies and savoury products, alongside vegan options and distinctive flavours that give customers something new to try.

Judges also valued Paige’s friendly and knowledgeable service and the work involved in attending markets and events regularly. The recognisable branding and warm customer experience have helped Calisi’s Cookies develop a loyal following.

Taylor’s Flowers & Plants

Darren Taylor was praised for his long-standing and dependable presence on Newcastle-under-Lyme’s market. Customers highlighted the range, quality and lasting condition of his flowers and plants, as well as the colour his stall brings to the town centre.

Judges also recognised Darren’s commitment to trading in all weather and the personal service he offers. His friendly and genuine approach has helped him build lasting relationships with customers and become a familiar part of the market community.

Dave – Cannonball Records

Dave at Cannonball Records was recognised for the years of work behind his popular record fairs. The events offer a consistently strong selection of records and attract loyal traders and customers who return regularly.

Judges valued the distinctive contribution the fairs make to Newcastle-under-Lyme and Dave’s willingness to adapt to keep them running. This includes moving into the Guildhall during the winter, allowing traders and record collectors to continue meeting throughout the year.

Gareth – Antiques Forum

Gareth was recognised for his dependable presence at The Antique’s Forum every Tuesday and Thursday. Nominations highlighted the selection of traders he brings together and his commitment to keeping the market running in all weather.

Judges valued the Antique’s Forum as an established part of Newcastle-under-Lyme’s market offer. Gareth’s consistency and work behind the scenes help maintain its welcoming atmosphere and give visitors a regular opportunity to browse something different.
