This award celebrates those who make people feel valued, respond positively when help is needed and create customer experiences that are remembered for the right reasons.
This category was judged by a panel made up of members of the Newcastle-under-Lyme BID Board and team, alongside a representative from Thompson Wright.
The shortlisted nominees were selected based on the strength of their nominations and the examples of exceptional service provided. The winner will be announced at the LoveNUL Business Awards on Friday 9th October.
The Shortlist
Anasma Greek Bakery
Anasma Greek Bakery was recognised for the friendly and accommodating service provided by its team. Nominations highlighted staff who greet customers with a smile, respond helpfully to requests and make people feel welcome.
Judges valued the consistent warmth behind the service and the team’s willingness to help wherever possible. This personal approach adds to the experience of visiting the bakery and has helped it build positive relationships with its customers.
Arta – Mellards Bar
Arta was praised for the warm, welcoming and personal service she provides at Mellards Bar. Her helpful approach and friendly personality were highlighted as an important part of the experience for customers visiting for drinks and pizza.
Judges recognised the difference an individual member of staff can make to a venue and its reputation. Arta’s contribution to Newcastle’s nightlife and her positive presence within the town were both seen as deserving of recognition.
Kevin Lownds Funeral Services
Kevin Lownds Funeral Services is an independent, family-run funeral home built around compassionate and personal care. Nominations highlighted the family’s commitment to listening, understanding individual wishes and supporting people through some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
Judges recognised the team’s accessibility, with families able to contact a member of the Lownds family directly, day or night. They also valued the small gestures, continued support and trusted reputation the business has built through recommendations from the families it has cared for.
Ruby – Piccoloco
Ruby at Piccoloco was praised for her friendly, chatty and enthusiastic approach, helping customers feel genuinely welcome whenever they visit. Her positive personality and attentive service were highlighted alongside the quality of the drinks she prepares.
Judges particularly recognised Ruby’s development during her apprenticeship. Her growing confidence, knowledge and practical skills demonstrate the commitment she has shown to her role and the progress she has made as part of the Piccoloco team
Specsavers
Specsavers Newcastle-under-Lyme was recognised for providing friendly, professional and reassuring service throughout the customer journey. Nominations praised the team for explaining each stage clearly, answering questions and helping customers feel comfortable and confident when choosing frames or receiving care.
Judges also valued the team’s clinical knowledge and its ability to identify concerns requiring further treatment. With more than 30 years in the town, the store has built trusted relationships across generations while continuing to support the wider community.
