New Business of the Year Award.
Sponsored by Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council
Celebrating a newer business that has made a strong start, brought something fresh to Newcastle-under-Lyme and shown clear potential for the future.
This award recognises businesses that have made positive progress since opening, built a strong response from customers and demonstrated resilience, ambition and a growing contribution to the town.
This category was judged by a panel made up of members of the Newcastle-under-Lyme BID Board and team, alongside a representative from Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council.
The shortlisted businesses were selected based on the strength of their nominations and what they have achieved so far. The winner will be announced at the LoveNUL Business Awards on Friday 9th October.
The Shortlist
Ascot Formal Suit Hire
Ascot Formal Suit Hire entered a new chapter when Paul Adams and his wife took over the business in January. Paul began his tailoring career as a school leaver at Greenwoods in Newcastle and had already worked in the shop for several years, bringing established knowledge and experience into the new ownership.
Judges valued the way the couple have retained the business’s traditional, personal service while gradually expanding its range of suits and options.
Castletown Podzamcze
Castletown Podzamcze has brought a distinctive new hospitality offer to Newcastle-under-Lyme through Polish beers, home-cooked food, live music and DJ nights. Its programme gives customers an opportunity to enjoy something different within the town centre.
Judges welcomed the business’s individuality and its willingness to introduce people to new food, music and experiences. The venue adds variety to Newcastle’s evening offer and gives customers another reason to explore somewhere new.
Community Cupboard CIC
Founded in May 2025, Community Cupboard NUL CIC has quickly developed from an idea tackling food insecurity and food waste into a growing, volunteer-supported community organisation. Its work includes emergency food support, seasonal projects and Newcastle-under-Lyme’s first social supermarket, giving people access to affordable food with greater choice and dignity.
Judges recognised the ambition and practical impact behind the organisation’s early growth, including securing £19,000 from the National Lottery Community Fund and rescuing thousands of food items from landfill. Its combination of food rescue, volunteering and partnership working offers a thoughtful new model of community support.
EM Beauty Clinic
EM Beauty Clinic has established a welcoming High Street business built on Ewelina’s 14 years of industry experience. Nominations praised the clinic’s cleanliness, professional treatments and clear, honest advice, with clients given the time and information needed to make decisions without feeling pressured.
Judges also valued the clinic’s support for other independent practitioners. This collaborative approach has created a space where businesses can develop alongside one another while clients receive personal and trusted care.
The One Boutique
The One Boutique has introduced a new independent women’s fashion offer to Newcastle-under-Lyme since opening in November 2025. Its changing selection of clothing, bags and accessories appeals to customers of different ages, with nominations also praising its fair prices.
Judges recognised Kasia’s friendly, helpful service and willingness to make an extra effort for customers. They also valued the confidence involved in opening a High Street business during challenging trading conditions.
